LARA, Lafayette Adult Resource Academy Team is a group of students involved in the Engineer Projects in Community Service (EPICS) program at Purdue University. We work with the Lafayette Adult Resource Academy (LARA) to develop applications that aid the academy in its mission of teaching academic and life skills so that learners may make productive, ongoing changes in their personal lives, in society, and in public policy. Our products utilize cutting edge hardware and software to produce state-of-the-art technology.
Lafayette Adult Resource Academy (LARA) helps individuals of any race, color or creed to achieve their personal and academic potential. By sending into the community persons with stronger self-esteem and increased basic skills, LARA contributes to the community's atmosphere, structure, and quality of life. LARA believes that by fostering educational and personal changes within individuals, it can bring about some changes in the cities, states, and countries in which the individuals live. By honoring the worth of learners, trusting in their ability to make positive changes in their lives, and giving them the opportunity to gain perceived goals, LARA increases learners' changes for fuller lives and returns those learners to a community in which they can exercise their new skills for the benefit of others.
Engineer Projects in Community Service (EPICS) is a unique program in which teams of undergraduates are designing, building, and deploying real systems to solve engineering-based problems for local community service and education organizations. EPICS was founded at Purdue University in Fall 1995.
